For over 60 years the LVVS has thrived thanks to its volunteers, some of whom have been with us for many years, but we always need more help! While volunteers with the technical skills to restore and maintain our vehicle collection are essential, there are plenty of other ways to get involved too. It could be general museum housekeeping and building maintenance, helping to organise and stage special events, administration, publicity, fund raising, researching and applying for grants or archiving documentation and conservation. Your talents, wherever they lie, would be a great help to the society. Currently, members meet at the Museum on Tuesday and Thursday daytimes and most weekends If you have any time to spare and a desire to get involved, we would love to hear from you!
But please do not think that being a member is all work and no play! We do like to have a bit of fun and enjoy ourselves whilst preserving both local and national road transport heritage for the benefit of future generations. Opportunities to drive the Society’s vehicles are there too, following suitable familiarisation with our vehicles (there are plenty of differences between our vehicles and modern cars / buses!), and bus drivers at special events must hold an appropriate PCV licence.
Members who are not in a position to be actively involved are also most welcome! Membership also offers the chance to ‘adopt’ a vehicle.
